Picking a Lieutenant Governor

New Jersey has had five governors in five years. This fall we will finally get a chance to elect its first lieutenant governor. The new office, created by a constitutional change in 2005, will serve as a back-up when the governor leaves town or is unable to complete a term. Republican candidate Chris Christie selected Monmouth Sheriff Kim Guadagno earlier this week, and Governor Corzine is expected to make a selection in the next few days. NJ Gun Law

Under a bill awaiting Gov. Jon Corzine's signature, New Jersey gun buyers will be limited to one handgun a month. We want to hear from you. Sound off, New jersey!

Blogger Arrest

Hal Turner, a blogger from North Bergen, was arrested earlier this month after officials spotted an entry on his blog that encouraged residents to "take up arms" against Connecticut lawmakers. The blog was over legislation that would have given lay members of Roman Catholic churches more control over parish finances. Turner promised to publish the addresses of lawmakers who sided against church officials. We want to hear from you. Sound off, New Jersey!

NJ Spending Budget

New Jersey is about to approve its spending budget for the year. This year's proposed $28.6 billion spending plan will kill homestead rebates for most New Jerseyans, raise income taxes for the wealthy, increase cigarette and alcohol taxes, and cap college tuition hikes. That covers a lot of you. We want to hear from you. Sound off, New Jersey!

Izod vs Prudential

The Izod Center is our old arena in the Meadowlands that has been home to the Nets, Devils and thousands of events. The Prudential Center, recently built in downtown Newark as the new home for the Devils, is eager to attract other teams and events to its state-of-the-art facilities. Last week, Newark Mayor Cory Booker questioned Governor Jon Corzine as to why the state was planning to spend taxpayer money to upgrade the Izod Center and asked him to veto the renovation plans. Izod or Prudential? We want to hear from you. Sound off, New Jersey!

Mayoral Election Landslide

Sea View Mayor Winston Mayfield was reelected last night in a landslide over his opponent, Assistant District Attorney Ned Danton.

The beloved “May May,” well known as a champion of green initiatives and an enemy of crime, has most recently been the subject of an infidelity scandal. Danton, who unsuccessfully prosecuted Destiny Blande in the criminal trial, initially ran on a platform of economic reform but recently changed his focus to family values.

Mayfield will extend his mayoral longevity beyond his town-record 12 years.

I voted for him. I’ve got a lot of trust in him. Hey – I don’t need to be married to him – I just need him to take care of our town. He’s never let us down before. If he wants to get a little on the side, that’s fine with me. Plus he said he’s going to marry the girl.

They say he tampered with the video surveillance cameras in front of their secret apartment by the ocean. The marina is right across the street. You know that’s why the videos of the Stahl murder were missing. Now evidence in the case of the century is missing and a killer is walking free all because another politician wants to cheat on his wife.

What’s the big deal? They voted for a dead guy a couple of years ago in Chicago, and that place has a lot more going on than Sea View. This is nothing. It will blow over soon.

Springsteen Plays Halftime Show

Bruce Springsteen and the East Street Band played their long awaited halftime performance during halftime of the Super Bowl today. Vegas was taking bets through the first half on what the playlist would be for the set, and how many songs they would play. The winning bet?
