Evening at the Premiere

The long-awaited Broadway premiere of If She Did It ended moments ago. The play, as you probably know, is based on the “fictionalized” story of a girl named Daphne Blain, better known as the Satin Strangler.

The show that was touted as a multimedia extravaganza of previously unseen proportions somehow exceeded all expectations. The dynamic interplay between newsreels and live video feeds was unparalleled. Many moments left theatergoers scratching their heads in disbelief.

We’d love to hear from anyone who saw the performance on Broadway, at a local movie theater, or through the live internet feeds. Sound off, New Jersey.

Amazing. Leopold The Great strikes again. This is his best ever. Nobody else leaves us mesmerized, trying to distinguish theater from reality. I have loved Broadway since I was a little kid, and this was the best show I've ever seen. It has the firepower of Les Miserables and the name-recognition of Amadeus, topped off with the multimedia wizardry that only Leopold can create. When the play opened with the presumed “live video” of the lawyer's office, the audience lurched back in synchronized horror. People were looking around as though there was actually a dead lawyer on the screen. It was brilliant.

I took my 14-year-old daughter to see it at the local theater tonight. She's a big Destiny fan. She has the posters on her wall and several autographed copies of the book. She even got the Satin Strangler doll for her birthday.

There were so many shocking moments in the play, especially the opening scene at the lawyer’s office. We are not sure why that scene was in there, but it was the one that had us talking all the way home. Everything else was consistent with the story of the Satin Strangler and fit within a plot.

I love the way they had everything playing on all the screens on stage. The documentary cameramen walking through the audience were a little distracting at first, but after a while they blended in with the set. We’re hoping to see ourselves in the movie, similar to how we looked in the live footage shown on the stage tonight.

OMG. It was incredible. At first when that lawyer appeared on the 20 foot screen, I jumped back and closed my eyes. Then I snuck a peek. I was like WTF. He looked totally dead. His face was all purple. How did they do that?

Bergen Blue Law Brawl

Blue Laws prevent Bergen County stores from opening on Sunday. Such laws disappeared in most other locations in New Jersey decades ago, but Bergen County residents prevented the abolishment due to a desire to minimize local Sunday traffic. Facing financial chllenges, Governor Chris Christie has called for the lifting of the Bergen County Blue Laws in order to add $65 million in state taxes. We want to hear from everyone from Bergen to Cape May on this one. Sound off, New Jersey!

New Jersey Bear Hunt

New Jersey is yet again considering bringing back a hunt to help reduce the state’s growing bear population. Last week, the New Jersey Fish and Game Council voted unanimously to recommend a six-day bear hunt in December. The state environmental commissioner still must approve the plan. Pension Reform

New Jersey is attempting to reform its chronically underfunded pension system for public employees. This week the state Senate passed a package of reform measures. Proposed changes include capping unused sick time retirees can claim at retirement, limiting participation of part-time employees in the pension system, and requiring employees to contribute 1.5% of their salaries to health benefits. Too Fat to Fly?

Red Bank native movie director Kevin Smith was told by a flight attendant that the captain of a Southwest Airlines flight determined that he was too obese and posed a safety risk. Smith, who had been able to fit in the seat with both arm rests down, then sent our a barrage of tweets to criticize the airline. We want to hear from you on this one. Sound off, New Jersey!

Jersey Shore on MTV

Jersey Shore reality show cast member Paulie D introduced his Guido philosophy in the first episode on MTV last week. There has since been an outcry from the talian-American community, including UNICO, which also protested The Sopranos. Advertisers are starting to pull their ads in the wake of the controversy. WIll this show and its "Guido" controversy continue? We want to hear from you. Sound off, New Jersey!
